SEPTEMBER 2010
DUE TO THE CHANGE IN THE AMERICAN RED CROSS LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM SOFTWARE SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 2010, OUR CHAPTER'S ONLINE "BLENDED LEARNING" CLASSES ARE TEMPORARILY NOT AVAILABLE. YOU CAN STILL ENROLL ONLINE FOR OUR TRADITIONAL INSTRUCTOR-LED CLASSES THROUGH THIS WEBSITE OR BY CALLING 818-243-3121 EXT 0.
Our chapter offers both traditional classes and online "Blended Learning" classes.
WHAT IS A TRADITIONAL CLASS?
You learn in a classroom from a certified Red Cross instructor. Classes are held at our chapter headquarters and other locations in Glendale and Montrose. There is hands-on practice throughout the class.
WHAT IS AN ONLINE “BLENDED LEARNING” CLASS?
In keeping with today's fast-paced information age, the American Red Cross has developed Blended Learning - a new way to offer Red Cross First Aid, CPR and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) training. You don’t need to worry about interruptions at home from phone calls or ringing doorbells. Red Cross online classes can be stopped and started according to your busy schedule.
The first portion is completed online, and you have the options of going through the course in the full or the abbreviated format and testing out of sections with which you are already familiar. There is an exam at the end of the online portion. The second part of your training is led by a certified Red Cross instructor. We suggest you wear comfortable clothing to the skills session, since you will be working on the floor. This in-person practice and assessment session ensures that you learn the skills necessary to save a life in an emergency.
These online courses all have “Blended Learning” in the course title.
For a short demonstration of Blended Learning, click the "Demo With Sound" button. A presentation will open in a new window. Make sure you turn on the speakers!
To start online training, go directly to Blended Learning Page>>>

CHOOSING A COURSE
The titles and descriptions will help you decide which course to take. If you are taking a course required for work, you need to verify the course with your employer before you register. The American Red Cross does not determine which course you are required to take.
SIGN UP FOR A COURSE
You can sign up for a course from our secure site anytime. Enrollment in an in-person skills session is required at the time of registration. After you enroll, you will receive an email enrollment confirmation. If the email does not arrive within 24 hours, please contact us to confirm your registration. For a detailed guide about registering, click here to download the visual registration manual. It will open in a new window as a pdf file.
PAYMENT
You can pay for your course(s) online using any major credit card.
REFUND POLICY
All class fees are non-refundable unless the course is cancelled by the Red Cross. We reserve the right to cancel a class at any time. If you choose to reschedule (one time only), please notify the chapter 2 business days prior to the class. A $10 transfer fee will apply. To reschedule, call our office at 818.243.3121 Mon.-Thurs. 8:30 am-4:30 pm, Friday 8:30 am-3:30 pm.
TIME FRAME
Our chapter does not have any time limits for completing the online portion, except that you must print the online completion certificate and bring it to your skills session as proof of your 80% or better score on the online tests.
SKILLS SESSION
To be certified in CPR or AED skills, Red Cross standards mandate that you must attend a skills session with an authorized Red Cross instructor and perform the skills on a mannequin.
COURSE COMPLETION
You must pass the final online test with an 80% or better score before you attend the classroom skills session. After completing the online portion, print out the completion certificate. You must give this certificate to the instructor at your skills session as proof of completing the online portion. After you pass the in-person skills session, you will receive a certification card for the course. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of the class. Late arrivals will not be admitted.
IMPORTANT: You are allowed 2 attempts to pass the online exam. If you do not pass it within 2 attempts, you may want to consider taking a traditional classroom course. If you wish to continue with online training, you must register and pay for a new course. If you believe there was an error in the scoring of your online exam, please contact our chapter at 818.243.3121.
CERTIFICATION
Usernames and passwords are non-transferable. You (the registered participant) are the only person authorized to obtain certification with your assigned username and password. If you require assistance reading the material, you may have someone read the content to you, but answering the questions on the test is solely your responsibility. You will be asked to accept terms that state you are the participant who is completing the course. Failure to accept the terms results in submission failure. Accepting the terms verifies you are the participant. Falsification of this information constitutes perjury. If you have other concerns about your certificate (spelling errors, etc.), please contact our chapter directly at 818.243.3121. Lost cards can be replaced for a fee of $5.
